Info requested.
I, you were looking for info on the 26 BMTS:
10/15/48, formed in Africa from trained troops for Indo China service.
4/16/49, Arrived Haiphong in Tonkin. AO = Tonkin, Sub Sector de Phu Lang Thuong.
4/1/51, Tonkin, part of the De Lature Defense Line for the Red River Delta.
7/1/51, Tonkin, had Commando 9 attached to Battalion.
5/52, Tonkin, Battalion had shortage of cadre that influenced performance.
1952, Tonkin, Battalion AO = RC 6 between Thien An and Thien Tien.
9/1/52, Tonkin, Commando 9 transferred to I/6 RIC. Battalion in combat on RC 6.
10/52 thru 1954, part of GM 7 in Tonkin, later Annam & Eastern Laos (this Battalion spent more time with the Mobile Groups than any other BMTS).
1/16/53 to 1/24/53, Tonkin, North of Thai Binh in Operation ARTOIS with GM 3, GM 4, S/GB 1, III/2 RTM, GM 5, DNA 3, DNA 12, 26 BMTS, III/13 DBLE, 27 Commando, 38 Commando.
5/53, Tonkin, Battalion had fewer NCO’s than TO&E. Resulting in degraded tactical ability.
7/10/54, Tonkin, 1 DMT part of GML 3 near Son Tay in Operation AUVERGNE.
9/30/54, Tonkin, Battalion disbanded.
10/1/54, renamed I/22 RIC.
Attachments: At one time or another Battalion had attached the 4, 20, 25, 26, 27, 28, 36, 39, 318, 320 & 325 CLSM. Also the 13, & 21 CLSVN and the 18, 29, 34, & 35 Commandos Nord Vietnam.
Hope it helps you. Any questions, please ask. Regards, Dan.
